Truly, his talent has come full circle since his first bid to run for Mayor of Washington DC, to now putting out excellent music.
Like so many involved in those halcyon political days, Mayor Allen quickly moved away from the initial liberating fast dictates of the political world, and has since been known as the fabulous songwriter of moody, well-crafted, atmospheric , dance, social rap. More importantly, it's the finest work of his post-career to date - just the sort of eclectic music that builds on an artist's main strengths with a more personal touch.
In contrast to the appealing, but more glossy tones of his first musical efforts, Mayor Allen's "Ring The Bells" brings out the social Heaven, with textural soundscapes, and genuinely "cinematic" soundtracks that back's up Mayor Allen's incredible hooks. Starting off with the exciting and affecting, but ultimately resplendent "Party All Night Long," which gets the body moving while the tunes settle in the head.
As evidenced on such standout compositions as "NaNaNa," Mayor Allen's warm, rich different voice croons steadily and sympathetically, adding shading elements.
Other notable tracks include the sparse, driving "Beep Beep Beep ," which includes a pop, slight dub step hip hop feel, continuing a long association of bridging the genres.
